RESTAURANG TRÄGÅRN

2021

In 2019 Tŷ Syml was approached by Jan Aman, the creative director of a project called Duved Framtid. The project aims to develop the small town of Duved in the North of Sweden into a self-sustaining, sustainable and zero-waste town which utilises local waste in the production of new buildings and products.

As part of this project the team are working directly with some of the world's best architects such as Mia Hagg, Farshid Moussavi and Shigeru Ban to create zero-waste materials and products from local waste streams to help develop the town.

The first product we developed and designed for this project was the Duved light. This light was designed for the new zero-waste restaurant which opened in the town called Restaurang Trägårn. The form of the lights are influenced by the local area of Duved itself. During a visit to Duved in March 2020, we met the local community and visited Sweden’s largest waterfall, Tännforsen, which was partly frozen, creating intricate formations in the ice which looked like steps. From this we gained inspiration for the step like features within the lampshade’s design.
